TEAM

Lara Thompson, LICSW

Therapist

Lara received her masters degree in Advanced Clinical Social Work from Columbia University in 2001. Before joining River and Stone she worked in both community mental health and private practice settings.  Drawing from several evidence-based treatment practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Psychoanalytical, Psychoeducational, Humanistic, and the Systems Theories approaches, Lara is able to individualize treatment to best meet a client’s presenting symptoms as well as understand origins of symptom onset.

Lara specializes in mood disorders, anxiety, depression, life transitions, loss, grief,  bereavement, and parenting- including parenting a child with developmental delays, ADHD, and executive functioning challenges. Lara synthesizes a holistic approach to mental health intervention including mindfulness, physical health, nutrition, and spirituality with short-term or ongoing narrative therapy.

A compassionate and empathic practitioner, Lara is honored to help her clients gain better understanding of cognitive and behavioral choices, recognize and remove obstacles to change, develop authentic and sustainable life goals, and support the ongoing journey of personal growth.
